I recently read ‘The Miseducation of Cameron Post’ by Emily Danforth after seeing the trailer for the film, which I think is now on Netflix! I couldn’t wait to write a review of this book, as I really enjoyed it and I think it has a lot of relevant, interesting themes that are prevalent even today. ![]()

With Abby’s mysterious past and Travis’ demons, the story turns intense. Travis, intrigued by Abby, and her indifferent attitude towards him, becomes her friend. There, she meets Travis ‘Mad Dog’ Maddox, Shepley’s cousin and the main fighter. It begins when Abby Abernathy goes to an underground fight with her best friend America and her boyfriend Shepley. It is fast-paced, full of angst and drama, the push and pulls between our main characters and focuses more on their tumultuous relationship. The plot is basic, what you can expect from a New Adult College Contemporary Romance. The tropes include bad boy falling for the good girl, friends to lovers. When you have a boring school and college life, these are the books you live vicariously through. I first read this book in 2012 and wow, I fell in love with it! Travis Maddox blew my mind, and the angst and the drama were so damn addictive. ![]() ![]() New Adult is basically Young Adult with explicit scenes and mature characters (just the way I like it LOL). ![]() Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire was my first foray into the New Adult world, and I guess, it’s one of the first books to start the era of New Adult Romance. ![]() 5/27/2023 0 Comments Material Girls by Kathleen Stock![]() ![]() However, it quickly becomes clear to whom Stock’s generosity and empathy is extended. While other books critical of transgenderism have been banned from the likes of Amazon and Target, Materials Girls has received positive attention across a range of platforms and been enthusiastically reviewed as “humane,” “generous” and “empathetic.” If the goal of the book is to reach a general audience, it appears to be succeeding. In her new book, Material Girls: Why Reality Matters for Feminism, philosophy professor Kathleen Stock carefully toes the line on what is acceptable within mainstream discourse on “sex and gender identity.” Widely praised for its clarity, the book offers an explanation of and proposes resolutions to the conflict between - as Stock frames it - “gender identity ideology” and women. When I do listen to an audiobook, it's usually with the physical book (or ebook) with me, which is what I did for this re-read. I will preface this review with the information that I do not listen to lots of audiobooks - it's not a format that works well for me. I was very fortunate to receive a full audiobook review copy of the book this last week and I was so excited to revisit all of these characters. Wolf Gone Wild was one of my favourite paranormal romance books of 2020, and introduced me to the wonderful writing of Juliette Cross. ![]() |
